As part of Somerset Moor Futures, FWAG SW & Avon Wildlife Trust’s yearlong project under the Lowland Agricultural Peat Water Discovery Pilot, we would like to invite you to a series of information workshops for farmers & landowners on peat. 

The purpose of these workshops is knowledge and experience sharing, to explore the future of peat with local farmers & landowners. If you own peat or manage peat ground and want a better understanding of the wider context and coming changes to peatland management, come along to any of the workshops that interest you.  

Further workshops will be run on the in-depth science of climate and peatland, and opportunities for farmers – dates tbc.

Nye Merrill-Glover, University of Bristol – Water management: an age-old problem  

Environment Agency – How the current water systems works & the EA’s role 

Somerset/Avon Wildlife Trust – Global climate change science and its effect on the Somerset Levels 

DEFRA – An introduction to the science of peat emissions 

DEFRA – Net zero targets & why they are relevant to the Somerset Levels 

FWAG – How Moor Associations can help & an introduction to our wider services
